Group toasting drinks on a private Hilton Head booze cruise at sunset

The Private Hilton Head Booze Cruise Guide: BYOB, Your Group Only, No Crowds

If you are planning a Hilton Head booze cruise, here is the first thing worth knowing: not all of them are the same. Some offer a seat. Others offer an experience. On the big public boats, you buy a ticket and share the deck with fifty strangers on a fixed route. On a private charter, the boat is yours, the drinks are yours, and the day is built around your group. This guide walks through how a private booze cruise works, how it compares to the big party boats, what it costs, and what to bring, so you can book the right trip with confidence.

A private Hilton Head booze cruise is a boat trip on the calm water of Calibogue Sound for your group only, capped at six guests, with your own captain. It is BYOB, the route is yours to shape, and there is no one else aboard. For a celebration or a close group, that changes everything about the day.

Can You Bring Your Own Alcohol? Yes! That’s the Whole Point!

On a private Hilton Head booze cruise, it is BYOB. You bring exactly what you want to drink, pack a cooler, and the boat is yours. This is the biggest difference between a private charter and the larger public cruises around Hilton Head, where drinks are sold at an onboard bar and outside alcohol is not allowed. With BYOB, you control the cost and the choices instead of paying bar prices on the water.

A few simple guidelines keep the day easy:

  • Bring cans or plastic instead of glass. It is safer on a boat and simpler to pack out.
  • Pack a cooler with your drinks. Plan for extra in the summer heat.
  • Everyone aboard should be of legal drinking age when alcohol is part of the trip.
  • Drink water alongside. A few hours in the sun moves faster than you expect.

Because the boat is private, you set the tone. Some groups bring a full spread for a big celebration, others keep it relaxed with a few drinks at sunset. Either way, it is your call, not a fixed menu.

Private Charter vs the Big Party Boat: Which One Fits Your Group?

Most booze cruises in Hilton Head fall into one of two camps, and knowing the difference saves you from booking the wrong day. Here is how they compare:

Private Booze Cruise

Big Public Party Boat

Who is aboard

Your group only, max 6

Up to 20+ strangers

Drinks

BYOB, your choice

Onboard bar, no outside drinks

Route

You build it

Fixed loop

Pace

Best for

Celebrations, close groups

Solo or couples, casual

If you want a relaxed, walk-up evening with music and a bar, a big public cruise does the job. But if you have a group and you want the boat to yourselves, your own drinks, your own playlist, and a route built around what you want to see, the private charter is the one to book. You are not buying a seat in a crowd. You are buying the whole experience.

What You Will See on the Water

A booze cruise on Hilton Head is not just drinks and music. The water around the island is some of the prettiest in the Lowcountry. On a typical trip you might cruise past salt marshes, quiet sandbars, and the great oaks of the nature reserves. Atlantic bottlenose dolphins often surface right alongside the boat, and a late trip puts you on the water for the sunset over Calibogue Sound. Tell your captain what you want to see and they will shape the route around it.

What to Bring on Your Booze Cruise

Packing is simple. The captain handles the boat, the route, and ice for the trip. You bring the rest:

  • Your drinks in cans or plastic, plus a cooler
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
  • A light layer for the breeze, especially at sunset
  • Snacks or food if you want them aboard
  • A phone or camera, because the dolphins tend to show up

The Best Time of Day for a Booze Cruise

Late afternoon into sunset is the sweet spot. The water flattens out, the marsh turns gold, and the dolphins are often most active. A sunset booze cruise pairs the celebration with the best scenery the island has to offer. Morning and midday trips are a great call for groups who want more swim and sandbar time before the evening sets in.

Hilton Head Booze Cruise Pricing

Pricing is per private boat, not per person, which makes it easy to split across a group:

  • 3-hour private charter: $525
  • 4-hour private charter: $625
  • Up to 6 guests per boat, available 7 days a week, 8 AM to 7 PM

Split among six people, a private booze cruise often lands close to the cost of a night out, except the boat and the captain are yours, and the view is a lot better. A small card convenience fee applies to credit and debit transactions.

Who a Private Booze Cruise Is Perfect For

A private booze cruise fits almost any group celebration: birthdays, reunions, friends’ trips, work outings, or simply a great afternoon on the water. It is an especially popular pick for bachelor and bachelorette groups who want their own boat instead of a packed bar. If that is what you are planning, our guide to planning a Hilton Head bachelorette on the water has more on building the day.

How to Book Your Private Hilton Head Booze Cruise

Booking is quick. Decide on your date and trip length, choose a pickup location, gather your group, and reserve. Lock in your trip here. Summer dates fill quickly, so the earlier you reserve, the better your pick of times. A captain will confirm your booking directly.

Hilton Head Booze Cruise FAQ

Can you bring your own alcohol on a Hilton Head booze cruise?

Yes. A private Hilton Head booze cruise is BYOB. Bring your drinks in cans or plastic and pack a cooler. The captain provides ice. This is different from the larger public cruises, which sell drinks at an onboard bar and do not allow outside alcohol.

How much does a private booze cruise cost?

A private charter is $525 for 3 hours or $625 for 4 hours, for up to 6 guests per boat. Pricing is per boat, not per person, so it splits easily across a group.

How many people can come?

Up to 6 guests per boat. For larger groups, multiple boats can be arranged so everyone stays together on the water.

Is a private booze cruise the same as a party boat?

Not quite. A private booze cruise is your group only, up to 6 guests, BYOB, with a route you help shape. Many party boats are large public vessels where you buy a single seat and drinks are sold onboard. The private option gives you the whole boat and your own pace.

What should we bring?

Your drinks in cans or plastic, a cooler, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a light layer for the breeze, and any snacks you want. The captain handles everything else.

When is the best time to go?

Late afternoon into sunset is the most popular window for the scenery and the dolphin activity. Morning and midday trips suit groups who want more swim and sandbar time.

Do you see dolphins on a booze cruise?

Often, yes. Atlantic bottlenose dolphins are active in these waters, and your captain can route toward the spots where they tend to gather.

Ready to Get Your Group on the Water?

A private booze cruise is the easy way to turn a group day into the best part of the trip. Your boat, your drinks, your route, your crew. When you are ready, reserve your private Hilton Head booze cruise and a captain will take it from there.

Captain Brody

At 14yrs old I started SCUBA diving and found a love for the water. Little did I know how much that would directly affect my life.

At 18 I started off working in kitchens and racing Soling sailboats on Wednesday nights and weekends in Lake Michigan. After seven years in Wisconsin my culinary career brought me to South Carolina where I continue to cook, fish and boat as often as possible.

In the past year I've decided I want to spend my time sharing my knowledge and love for the ocean with all.

Highly recommend!! We were supposed to do a Disappearing Island tour, but the weather was not cooperating. Instead, Captain Brody took us on a shark tooth and sea shell tour - we had such a good time! Captain Brody was very nice, helped us find a bunch of fossilized shark teeth, showed us several homes on the water, shared some history of the Hilton Head area, and stopped any time we saw a dolphin (there were several). Captain Brody even took the time to rescue a hat that blew overboard - he did a great job!
Response from the owner:Thankyou you Jacob for the five star review and im glad we were able to piviot the vanishing island tour to searching for sharks teeth

Captain Brody was an amazing tour guide for our dolphin boat tour! We saw so many dolphins!!! His knowledge of dolphins combined with his easy going personality (we had to change our time several times due to weather and schedule changes on our end) made for the perfect outing! His tour is the best kept secret in Hilton Head!

He is a great tour guide. We did the shortest dolphin tour and he is so knowledgeable about the waterways and wildlife. We saw lots of dolphins and once you see them pop their head up, you start to see them all over. I booked another trip for the fall and cant' wait.

We went on the disappearing island tour this week and had a great time! We’ve done many dolphin tours before but this was our first time booking a private tour. Definitely worth the money! The boat ride was fun and comfortable, the island was a neat experience, plus we got to see lots of dolphins. The best part was we could take our dog, and I truly think it was the best day of his life!
